Veiled in Gold

Description
A woman’s face is caught in quiet repose, one half rendered in soft, naturalistic skin tones and the other dissolving into streaks of raw gray and black. Cutting through both halves are jagged patches of gold leaf, applied with the rough, cracked texture of aged metal, as if the painting itself were fracturing along a seam of buried treasure. Her closed eyes and softly parted lips keep the mood introspective, even meditative, while the gold accents catch the light and shift with the viewer’s position, giving the piece a subtle sense of movement. As the opening work of the Gold Rift collection, it introduces the central idea of the series: beauty and value surfacing through breaks in the ordinary.
